Great WAFL debuts by two former juniors, our first Sunday game day match by our Women's team, some good efforts in the juniors and seniors and it adds up to a busy week at Payne Park
Sunday was a busy day for the club with our first hit out by all teams. Unfortunately not all teams got the choccies but some great football was played and late night celebrations with the Paddler on a visit from the goldfields.
COLTS
Bunbury 26.15 defeated Collie 2.6
Best players were Zac Jerrard, Kai Luzi, Alex Raftos-Carter, Coen Bradshaw, Ben Frazer and Lachy Norrish.
Colts put in a polished performance playing good strong team football with a spread of consistent contributors across the ground to keep their undefeated status intact for 2017. In a disciplined display they kept pressure on all day and pushed for a big win to help set their season up for a top 3 finish come September.
RESERVES
Collie 10.10 defeated Bunbury 2.6
Best players for Bunbury were Daniel Lloyd-Smith, Dewayne Partington, Daniel Snape and Luke Hislop.
Take nothing away from the Collie boys a bit more polish, smart use of the ball and they grabbed an important win. Back to the track for the reserves who are still well placed at 3 wins and 1 loss for the season.
LEAGUE
Collie 14.10 to Bunbury 9.6
Best players were Kyle Bassett, Blair Della Franca, Braiden McMullen, Codey Hay and Aiden Clarke
Although in the game all day some lapses in concentrate and a Collie team that to their credit took their opportunities saw them finish with a 34 point win.
WOMENS
Bunbury 7.22 to Collie 3.4
Although still only a "scratch match" the tempo was up with the ladies going flat out. Captain coach Trish Lake took home more than a few stitches (5 staples) while Lilly Taylor (from a long line of Bunbury champions) kicked the first goal of the game. Great effort by the ladies who officially enter the competition next week.
The new format for the day to include a Women's Game has proven a great success with a bumper crowd in attendance.
Other noteworthy achievements for the week include the WAFL League debuts of former juniors Ethan Maguire at Swan Districts and Michael Tassone at Peel Thunder and State 16 player Nathan Ireland lining up for Swan Districts Colts team. All performed well with Ethan and Michael hopefully doing enough to run out again next week with their WAFL clubs.
Congratulations to the juniors who managed to organise 8 fantastic games at the kennel on Saturday.
Many thanks to Kampen Photography for the images used this week. For more of these go to Kampen Photography or the Bunbury Football Club facebook page.
Big thanks to all the club's sponsors for their support this weekend, onwards now to challenge the undefeated Harvey Brunswick Leschenault.
